Downloading originals
A single picture, the whole album or a selection – and who is allowed to.
On screen the app shows previews – they load quickly and are enough for looking. The original is the file that leaves the club: for printing, for the club magazine, for the archive on your hard drive. There is a separate way to get it, and a separate permission.
Look first, then download
In full screen the app shows the large preview – it loads quickly and is enough for a screen. The original is bigger: a phone photo easily has three times the edge length.
If you want to see it properly – a face in the back row, the writing on a banner – tap the HD icon at the top. The app then loads the same picture at full resolution and tells you below how large it is; if you had zoomed in, the part you were looking at stays in place. Browsing to the next photo puts you back on the preview.
Why not the original right away
An album of three hundred originals would be a test of patience over mobile data. The preview exists so that browsing stays smooth; you fetch the original when you need it.
Downloading a single picture
Open the photo in full screen. At the top, next to the recycle bin, sits the downward arrow.
In the browser the file lands in your downloads folder. On a phone the share sheet opens: "Save to Files", AirDrop, mail, print – you decide where the picture goes.
The whole album
Above the photo list you will find "Download album". It gives you every picture of the album in one ZIP file.
Tap "Download album".
Wait while it is packed. With two hundred pictures that takes a moment – the app tells you it is working. Stay on the page.
Saving, or sharing, then opens by itself.
More than two gigabytes at once is not possible
The app declines a bundle over two gigabytes instead of building it: over a club connection that would be half an hour, and hardly any browser holds out that long. Take fewer pictures at a time then – year by year, for instance.
Only certain pictures
Tap "Select" – or press and hold a picture in the grid.
Tap the pictures you want. Each one gets a tick.
In the bar at the bottom, "Download as ZIP".
If a picture is missing from the bundle because it was deleted in between, the app tells you afterwards which one. The others are in there all the same.
Originals can contain location data
Many cameras and phones write the GPS coordinates of the place of capture into the picture. This detail is kept in the original and goes along when you download it. For photos taken on private property it is worth a thought before you pass the file on. The previews in the app do not contain it.
Who is allowed to
Downloading originals is a separate permission and not part of viewing. The difference is deliberate: what is on screen stays inside the club. A file leaves it, can be passed on and does not age – and with pictures of people that weighs more than with a list.
Two roles have it by default:
- Administrator
- Media officer – the role for the picture chronicle: creating albums, uploading photos, weeding them out and handing out originals. It cannot do more than the pictures.
Anyone who may only view photos sees no arrow and no "Download album" button. That is not a hidden control but a boundary: without the permission the app does not even name the address of the original.
If someone else should be allowed to hand out originals, give their role the permission "May download photos as originals" under Manage club → Roles.
Every download is recorded
Who fetched an original and when is kept in the club's access log – single pictures as well as bundles. That is the same traceability as downloading a member list.
